One question: Why landing rockets were not used all the way to touchdown? One answer may be that it is a rover and has to avoid any unnecessary weights. But then, there could be a provision of detaching the rocket gears after touchdown. Or the rover could be made sitting on top of the rocket motored platform and simply roll down a ramp after touchdown. This could have avoided an additional delicate skycrane manoeuvre. Anyways it is an awesome landing sequence and I can't stop watching the animations of Curiosity landing sequence over and over again. It is impressive.
