LAHORE, July 15: Traders lodged a strong protest after robbers looted cash and valuables worth Rs2million from three shops and left a citizen injured in a shootout with police at Azmat Chowk in Green Town police limits on Sunday.

Traders of Green Town and Township set tyres on fire and raised slogans against police for increasing robberies.

Police said three robbers looted cash and valuables from three shopkeepers, including Nadeem Sheikh and Ajmal, near Omer Chowk in Township and then Azmat Chowk in Green Town.

Someone alerted the emergency police and a police team arrived at the spot.

The crossfire between two sides left 27-year-old Maqsood Sadaat, a passer-by, injured.

The suspects managed to flee the scene. A Rescue 1122 ambulance shifted the injured to Jinnah Hospital.

Four robbers barged into the house of Nadeem in Shadman police limits and took away cash and valuables worth Rs700,000 at gunpoint.

Some robbers stormed into the house of Arif in Islampura police limits and escaped after looting cash and valuables worth Rs500,000 at gunpoint.
