LAHORE: Gunmen on Thursday shot dead eight Pakistani police and prison staff, and wounded nine others after storming a building in the eastern city of Lahore where they were sleeping, police said.

It was the second attack in three days on security personnel in the province of Punjab, raising fears of a fresh wave of violence in the political heartland of Pakistan, which has been largely peaceful over the last year.

The attackers arrived on motorbikes and targeted a building in the densely populated area of Ichra, where up to 35 police and prison staff were living, mostly officers from the troubled northwest who were in Lahore for training.

“The gunmen came early in the morning, entered the building and opened fire,” Lahore police chief Aslam Tareen told AFP.

“Eight were martyred and nine others are wounded.” There was no immediate claim of responsibility. The gunmen fled and Tareen said police were investigating who was responsible.

The Pakistani Taliban said it was responsible and vowed more violence in the region.

Solution is very simple. 1) We get out of this war ASAP, including closing NATO supply, and we remain neutral. 2) Seal the border with Afghanistan, mine it, fence it, do whatever it takes. 3) Remove ALL illegal AFGHANIS from the Pakistani soil. But who will do it???

Dialogue with criminals / beasts you are living in utopia they will keep on killing innocent people whether NATO is there or not. Please read recent history when America left the Pakistan right after so called Afghan Jihad these criminals started killing each other they are simply blood thirsty savages. The simple solution is that we should all stand up against these criminals without any ifs and buts.

Teach Quran to Taliban and similar organizations like Taliban. NO WHERE in Quran it says to Kill innocent people. Most Pakistani remember Quran by heart but never read the translation. Read Quran in your own language and understand what it says about life. Quran is not to be memorized only but to be understood. Quran rules of engagement for the war

The perception prevails over facts. The same old story of Pakistan. Afghans are not Pakistanis and what is happening in their country is non of our business. We need to close our border at Afghanistan and push all the illegal immigrants out of Pakistani territories. That's the ever lasting solution. I know it will sound bit harsh but Pakistan should seriously consider laying down land mines with Afghan border, making illegal intrusions impossible.

nato supply should b stoped and govt should control this situation with dialogue with the extremists.

This all because of Ziaa ul Haq's policy when he allowed the Afghan refugees into Pakistan .Who will control it? It will take lot of courges to have security in this country.

It may be reaction of re-opening nato supply to afghanistan.

Well done Mr. Bilal.... NO COLLATERAL DAMAGE..... What a comment. Those beasts kill more than half a dozen souls of our own and you say that nothing has happened. U are speaking American language. U should go and witness the turmoil in the families of those poor policemens' home. Not agreeing with the government on opening of NATO supplies doesnt mean that u start killing innocent people.

Opening or closing Nato supplies will not make any difference. If the govt gives in here, tomorrow the Talibans would make other demands. The only solution is to close Taliban factories (madrassahs) and rehabilitate young children. Taliban originated from Madrassa Haqania and now hundreds of Madrassas are operating throughout the country.
