LAHORE: Counsel of Indian ‘spy’ Sarabjeet Singh appealed President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday to convert Singh’s death sentence to life imprisonment on humanitarian grounds, DawnNews reported.

Singh had been given death sentence by Pakistani courts.

Addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club, Singh’s counsel Owais Shaikh said that he would conduct joint press conference on August 15 with Bheem Singh, attorney of Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails.

Moreover, he said that he would also meet with the Pakistani prisoners in India.

Shaikh said that on the principle of humanitarian grounds, the government should follow Indian goodwill gesture of ailing Pakistani doctor Khalil Chishti’ release and it should release Sarabjeet.

Pakistani authorities had changed their stance at the last moment and released Surjeet Singh instead of Sarabjeet.
