Mass hunting of markhor

Published Jun 27, 2012 12:04am

I WOULD like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned towards the mass hunting of wildlife at Goth Ismail Shikari Kharkhacho tehsil, Bela district, Lasbella, Balochistan.

About 10,000 wild goats (markhor) and sheep are present in this area and people are free to hunt. Wildlife is decreasing day by day, diminishing and damaging the beauty of this area of Balochistan.

Locals lodged a complained with former district Nazim but no action was taken. Instead they were scolded on raising this issue.

I would request the authorities to impose restriction and heavy penalty on hunting markhor to preserve the beauty of the area.

You should approach your sardars. They are the only ones who can protect this species. The people in the government dont care . Why should they?. I Live in central canada which is full of wildlife but we are not even allowed to catch more than one fish (less than 35 cm long) in any one day.

Dear Farhan, so encouraging to see that the locals are so worried about their surroundings. It is such a beautiful & graceful animal and very challenging to hunt as well. Enjoy & take care of your wild life. Warm Regards

Iam surprised at the knowledge of the article writer, there is no Markhor in Las Bela or Kirther mountains.there are Sindh Ibex (Sarah) and wild sheep (URIAL) in this area.Having said that Mr Farhan has raised the issue of protection of wild life Pakistan and I salute him for that.In Pakistan human life is not safe so who would care for wild life?
