ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Secretariat has issued its schedule for the election of new Prime Minister during Friday’s NA session.

According to the schedule issued Wednesday, Secretary NA Karamat Niazi would receive the nomination papers for the premiership by 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 21.

NA Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza will carry out scrutiny of the nomination papers at 3:00 PM the same day.

The candidates, whose nomination papers are found in order, will be eligible to contest election for the office of the prime minister. However, any candidate who desires to quit the contest can withdraw his nomination papers any time.

A session of the National Assembly has been summoned by President Zardari to meet on Friday, June 22 to elect new the premier.

The Lower House will meet Friday at 5:30 PM in the Parliament House where Dr Mirza will chair the proceedings.

After election on Friday, the majority candidate will emerge as Prime Minister-elect, until he takes oath of the office to become PM. After taking oath, the new premier will seek vote of confidence from the House.
