KARACHI, May 25: President Asif Ali Zardari, who returned home after attending a Nato summit in Chicago, held a meeting at the Bilawal House on Friday to review the law and order situation in Karachi with special reference to the recent incident of firing on a rally in the city in which at least 11 people were killed.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Interior Minister Senator Rehman Malik were prominent among those who attended the meeting.

According to sources, President Zardari was perturbed over the recurring incidents of violence in the metropolis and expressed deep concern over the inability of law-enforcement agencies in quelling violence.

He also expressed concern over the death of seven passengers who were killed on Friday in firing on an Attock-bound bus in Qazi Ahmed town.

Earlier in the day, Mr Zardari also visited his home town Nawabshah to attend the death anniversary of his father Hakim Ali Zardari.

President Zardari, according to sources, directed the chief minister to ensure that culprits didn’t go unpunished and sought an early report on the law and order situation in the province.

Mr Shah briefed the president on various measures that had been taken to ensure order in the city.
