Everybody knows how our TV channels pounce on to ideas, especially when they (ideas) are universally accepted. Last week’s Mother’s Day programmes that almost every TV network ran had nothing new to them. How could there be something fresh to Mother’s Day? You only have to talk about mothers and their importance in our lives. Understandable. What was lacking in a majority of Mother’s Day specials was genuineness. All had a pattern which appeared quite similar.

Having said this, it was nice to see singer and composer Nadeem Jaffery paying a heartfelt homage to his mother through one of his songs. The singer sang the number (on one of the many talk shows) with utmost dedication which could be readily noticed. The fact that he couldn’t control his tears was testimony to the power of both the powerful remembrance of his mother and of music.

PS: On the topic, till last reports came in (May 16), actor Humayun Saeed’s mother was in the ICU ward of a local hospital. She is in a critical condition for quite some time which has caused a lot of distress and grief to the family. Hope she recuperates soon.
