QUETTA, May 16: Twelve protesting teachers were put on the drip when their condition deteriorated on the seventh day of their fast unto death on Wednesday.
In response to a call by the Government Teachers Association, at least 130 teachers started the hunger strike on May 10 after they were denied permission to stage a sit-in outside the Chief Minister Secretariat and police used batons and teargas to stop their procession.
An ambulance has been kept near the protesters’ camp set up outside the press club and a medical team is attending to them.
Representatives of several political parties, labour unions and student organisations visited the camp expressing solidarity with the strikers.
Talking to the visiting delegations, GTA president Haji Abdul Ghaffar Gadazai said that the hunger strike would continue till the government notified it would investigate the alleged embezzlement of development funds and reverted junior officers, who have been allegedly given senior positions, to their posts.
