ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday demanded the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani after his conviction in the Supreme Court.

Imran Khan said Gilani has no moral authority to keep his portfolio as he has lost his credibility. He said accompanying of allied parties with the prime minister was a sorrowful act, adding that they had not gone to court in the national interest but to avert themselves from accountability.

He further said that allies of the government know that if the accountability process was begun, all the accussed would be nabbed in corruption cases. He termed the coalition parties in government as a union of corruption to accumulate money.

"The PPP is mocking the Supreme Court," he added. The PTI chief said it was a historic day in the history of judiciary when a powerful person was brought before justice.

He greeted the entire nation, saying that the struggle of the lawyers movement gave the country a free Supreme Court.

Imran Khan recalled that some political parties had waged a struggle during the free judiciary movement, but today those same parties were standing with Gilani as part of the status quo. He warned that the PTI would launch a historic movement if efforts were made to exert pressure on the judiciary.
