ISLAMABAD: Members of the opposition, under the leadership of Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) staged a protest rally from the Parliament House and were staging a sit-in outside the Presidency on Thursday, DawnNews reported.

Members of other political parties also joined the rally and the sit-in led by Mr Khan.

Before the rally and the sit-in, opposition members protested in the National Assembly session against loadshedding and government policies.

Opposition’s chanting prompted a pandemonium inside the parliament as members of the ruling party also started chanting in reply.

Earlier on Wednesday, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had told reporters: “We will march from the Parliament House to the Presidency tomorrow and stage a sit-in there.”

Mr Khan had termed President Asif Ali Zardari’s rule a ‘disaster’ for the nation. “Time has come to jolt the rulers out of their slumber or else remove them,” he declared.

The PML-N leader, who is also chairman of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, said the rulers had failed to resolve the energy crisis despite being in power for almost four years. Instead, he said, there had been an increase in the duration of power outages since the time the PPP government came into being.
