KARACHI: PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif said Monday that the Supreme Court has unveiled the culprits behind Karachi unrest, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, Sharif said that those responsible for the unrest in Karachi should be brought to justice.

He also opposed the idea of seeking foreign aid for the flood affected of Pakistan and said Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani should help the affectees from his discretionary fund.

He was replying to newsmen questions along with Sindh National Front SNF Chairman Mumtaz Ali Bhutto whom he met earlier shortly after his arrival today in Karachi.

The PML-N chief who will visit flood the affected areas of Sindh from Tuesday said government should have taken immediate steps to help the people in Sindh.

Sharif said he desired that the government and opposition should work jointly to help the affected people but they (government) did not respond favuorably.

“Punjab government has already provided relief goods worth millions of rupees for the flood affectees of Sindh and would do more. So Far 350 people have died due to heavy rains and floods in Sindh,” he stated.

To a question, he said the directives of the Supreme Court on suo moto notice should be implemented by the government in order to restore peace in Karachi.

Those involved in killings in Karachi should be tried and punished. “I want peace restored in Karachi and for it to become the city of lights once again.”

He said rapprochement among some political parties in Karachi was a good omen.

PML-N Chief did not respond to a question on date for general elections in the country and said the president and the prime minister can give timeframe in this connection.

He criticized the government and said there has been no improvement in the performance of institutions and that PIA and Railways were deteriorating because of ill-framed policies.
