ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday expressed confidence that the formation of a new government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir under the stewardship of Chaudhry Abdul Majeed would work whole-heartedly for the Kashmiri cause as well as for the welfare of the people of AJK.

The prime minister was talking to the newly elected Prime Minister of AJK Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, who called on him at the PM Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.

The prime minister appreciated his 42 years long political struggle for the well-being of the people and also for the Pakistan Peoples' Party.

The confidence reposed by the elected members of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly upon the leadership of Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, clearly indicates that he rightly deserved to be elected as the prime minister, he added.

The AJK prime minister thanked Prime Minister Gilani for the political support given to the party during the election campaign and expressed hope that the Government of Pakistan would continue to extend support to the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The AJK prime minister assured Prime Minister Gilani that he would also follow his footsteps to adopt the policy of political reconciliation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

He further mentioned that he desired to bring change to the lives of the people for which he would take all the political parties along in the larger interest of the people.

Prime Minister Gilani informed the AJK Prime Minister that he would visit Muzaffarabad at his earliest convenience.

He also assured him that the Planning Commission will be directed to prepare the requisite PC-1 for the long outstanding demand for construction of Lower Topa-Muzaffarabad Express Way.

The meeting was also attended by Minister for Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Federal Ministers Mir Hazar Khan Bajrani and Ms. Samina Khalid Ghurki, MNA Chaudhry Asghar Jutt and Ex-MNA Chaudhry Nazir Jutt.
