Congratulation to faculty members, leaders, and students of the respective universities for taking steps to improve ranking. A special thanks to Dr. Atta-Ur-Rehman for his sincere efforts during his time with HEC in facilitating this change and doing the ground work. This message is in-complete without giving credit to Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf and Mr. Shaukat Aziz for adopting policies for the larger benefits of the nation of Pakistan. I wish our democratically elected leader could follow similar policies for the welfare and good of the nation instead of undoing all of the good work of their predecessors.

One wonders why Dawn couldn't find a better picture for this encouraging news report. Anyway, this is really great news; the outcome of years of hard work by former HEC Chairman Prof Atta-ur-Rehman. This shows once again that with honesty, sincerity, devotion nothing is impossible!

congratulations to all those who have any contribution for this achievement. Keeping in view the talent and potential this country has; may be we could have achieve much better place, had we been able to keep corruption out of at least our education system, increase in budget allocations and been able to control terrorist activities. It is surprising to see no University from Iran on the list? Not even from Malaysia, Indonesia. Good to see Saudi Arabia too on the list.

It is really a good news to hear that two of the Pakistani Universities made it to the top list globally. Much credit goes to former President Parvez Mausharaf who changed UGC into Higher Education Commission and also to the Ata ur Rehman. They made hard efforts to develop the higher education system in Pakistan. Bilal from University of Kashmir (Indian Administered)

The article mentioned two Pakistani universities ranked among the top 200 Technology Universities of the World, one of them is Federal Government University. Why is the second university's name not mentioned? Secondly, DAWN and We should do our research before applauding or praising anything. I just looked at the list of QS World University Rankings 2010 and no Pakistani university if anywhere near 200. NUST has the highest ranking of 366 with a score of 31.56 out of 100. There are 3 other universities in between 551-600 with a score ranging from 15 to 17 out of 100. Are we in the habit of interpreting statistics in our favor somehow? I don't understand what is there to applaud and praise.

It doesn't say overall ranking. It says technology ranking , i havn't checked but i m sure that will be under 300 for NUST. QS itself is not a credible source for these rankings. times are few others are more renowned in this area.

The whole credit for this goes to Dr. Atta-ur-Rahmaan. Being a very closed person with Federal Universities, I know what he was doing,,, he was just great person. Musharaf, on the other side provided a lot of financial support to universities for their faculty development. From about every governement university about 200-300 faculty members are studying abroad to their PhD program. This faculty development program was initiated by Musharaf in 2006 or 2007 with a huge huge amount of funds. The democratic Government, after getting power stopped the program immediately. After a lot of protest by those who were in the mid of their degree or were close to finish, they announced that those are abroad will be provided with the funds but now new person will be granted. I want to add one more point, about 50% of those will be back in this year or next and Govt will like to have credit for these but in my view credit goes only to Musharaf who took the step and hats off to Atta-ur-Rahman who honestly spent the every single rupee of that grant.
