ISLAMABAD, Feb 8: Former cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz on Tuesday said the culture of corruption in the country would be brought to an end.
He presented these views while addressing a press conference here at the National Press Club in which he announced his decision to join Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). MQM leaders Babar Ghauri, Farooq Sattar, provincial minister Raza Haroon and Zahid Malik besides a large number of party workers were present on the occasion.The former test cricketer said he joined the MQM so that people at grassroots level might be empowered and the country might be purged of corruption and malpractices.
“I am proud to announce that I have chosen the MQM as a platform for serving the masses of the country. I have talked to my leader Altaf Hussain before joining the party,” the former fast bowler said.
MQM leaders on the occasion welcomed Sarfraz Nawaz in the party fold and said it was a great victory for the party and would prove to be a harbinger of a revolution in the Punjab. Farooq Sattar said the MQM's call was echoing across the country. He said the party was not based on ethnicity or linguistic features rather it was the third largest party in the country.
Party workers on the occasion were seen hugging the former cricketer and welcoming him to the party. “Sarfraz is a straightforward and honest person and MQM needs people like him. We want revolution in the country so that 98 per cent poor people of the country may decide their future,” Naila Rehman, a party activist, said.
