HYDERABAD, Jan 24: Tando Mohammad Khan District Nazim Mir Inayat Ali Talpur on Monday directed district government departments to furnish lists of vacant posts so that these could be filled.

Presiding over a meeting of EDOs and other district officials, he said the lists should be provided within three days.

He said that after seeking approval from federal and provincial governments, vacant posts in government departments would be filled on merit basis by inviting applications through advertisement.

He also cancelled deputation orders of various government officials working in education, health, irrigation, roads, revenue and other departments. He made it clear that officials of the same grade and departments would work on the posts and not those working on deputation.

The nazim told the meeting that approval was being sought from the health department to upgrade basic health centres in three talukas of the district.

He also constituted committees to ensure success of the anti-polio campaign.

Mr Talpur warned that negligence in duty or inefficiency would not be tolerated in lining of watercourses.

MOVEMENT: The central committee of the Sindh Hari Committee at a meeting held here on Tuesday decided to launch a protest movement throughout the province against construction of dams on the River Indus, army operation in Balochistan and the NFC award on the basis of population.

Rejecting the NFC award on the basis of population, it demanded that the award should be announced on the basis of revenue generation and poverty.

It believed that the construction of water projects on River Indus would be harmful for the unity, solidarity and integrity of the country.

It urged the rulers to scrap the water projects in the larger interest of the country.

The meeting criticized the Balochistan operation and demanded that it should be called off and a dialogue should be initiated with nationalist leaders of the province to resolve contentious issues.

The committee, however, did not announce a date for launching the protest movement.
