KARACHI: A man was killed in Malir while resisting an armed mugging attempt, police said on Tuesday.

They said two armed men on a motorbike intercepted 30-year-old Mohammad Bux near Mohabbat Nagar bus stop close to Malir 15 late on Monday night. As one of them was collecting valuables including cash and mobile phones Bux offered resistance and managed to overpower the mugger.

“However, his other accomplice fired multiple shots leaving the victim dead on the spot. The muggers then rode away,” said an official at the Saudabad police station.

“The victim originally hailed from Mirpurkhas and worked here as a labourer in an industrial unit where he also lived for the last two years. The police are waiting for the family of the victim to register the FIR,” he added.

Young man commits suicide

A 20-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope at his home in Federal B. Area.

An official at the Joharabad police station said that Mohammad Bilal ended his life due to some domestic problems.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later handed over to the heirs.

“He lived in an apartment in Block 7, Federal B. Area. The family is reluctant to share details. The police handed over the body to the family after completing legal formalities,” added the official.

Police’s Yaum-i-Shuhada observed

The Sindh police observed its Yaum-i-Shuhada on Tuesday to pay tributes to those officials who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

The police martyrs’ day is marked every year on Aug 4 at the national level. It aims to pay homage to the unparalleled sacrifices of the police and expressing solidarity with the families of the brave men.

Inspector General of Sindh Police Mushtaq Mahar visited a martyrs’ monument at the Central Police Office to pay his respects.

Later, he also visited houses of martyred Sub-Inspector Shahid and Constable Amir who were killed during attacks on the Pakistan Stock Exchange and on Chinese consulate, respectively.
