LAHORE: A former assistant registrar of the Punjab University was allegedly gunned down by unidentified armed men in Mustafa Town here on Friday.

Identified as Ahmad Ali, 65, the deceased was ambushed when he left his residence to go to his dairy farm located on the premises of the Punjab University.

A police official said that as Ali reached close to Azam Garden, two armed men on a motorbike sprayed him with bullets and fled from the scene, leaving Ali in a pool of blood. Police rushed to the site on being alerted and found Ali dead due to a profound bullet injury in the head.

Quoting the deceased’s brother, Ashraf, the police official said Ali might have been gunned down owing to an enmity with some locals. Police were trying to collect footage from a CCTV camera installed at the crime scene to establish the identity of the attackers.

A case has been registered against the unidentified killers on the complaint of Ashraf, police said, adding that the body was shifted to city morgue for autopsy.
