LOWER DIR: An assistant sub-inspector was martyred and a constable injured when unknown miscreants attacked a police mobile at Ghanam Shah Munda in the wee hours of Friday.

The Munda police, during a routine night patrol on the Munda-Timergara Road, noticed some mishap at a nearby filling station. When ASI Naseer Khan, a resident of Khadagzai, and constable Altaf Hussain, a resident of Fengal Dushkhel, got down, unknown outlaws opened indiscriminate fire on them, killing the ASI on the spot and injuring the constable.

The attackers also hurled a hand grenade at the police party and managed to escape from the scene. The dead and the injured were shifted to the Munda hospital.

The assailants also took away Rs500,000 cash and two mobile sets of the salesman of the filling station at gunpoint.

A heavy contingent of police cordoned off the area after the incident and started a search operation.

Later, the martyred ASI was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard. The deceased was also honoured with a guard of honour at the Timergara police lines, where DPO Abdur Rashid Khan, SP investigations Wiqar Khan and other officers laid floral wreaths on his coffin.

The Munda police registered a case against unknown miscreants.
