LAHORE: A sessions court on Thursday granted post-arrest bail to a female doctor facing a charge of killing her teenage maid.

Chuhng police had registered a case against Dr Humaira and her husband, Junaid, in January this year. The police investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly killed their domestic worker Sana, 14, with physical torture.

The police had also recovered the dead body of the deceased from their house.

The doctor and her husband claimed that they found Sana dead when they returned to home from job. The couple said they took the maid to a hospital when they reached home from their respective workplaces. But, they said, she died of injuries inflicted after falling from stairs.

However, the police said the couple used to torture their maid who succumbed to her injuries due to non-provision of medical facility.

Representing the bail petition of the doctor, a lawyer told the court that the petitioner was pregnant and keeping her behind bars could be dangerous for her health. He said the petitioner was also vulnerable to coronavirus pandemic since dozens of inmates had been tested positive to the virus. He asked the court to release the petitioner on bail.

The court allowed the petition and granted bail to the doctor subject to two surety bonds of Rs100,000 each.

The doctor’s husband had already been released on bail.
