SWABI: Seven people were killed and eight others received injuries in rain-related incidents in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.

In Swabi, four members of a family were buried alive when the roof of their mud house collapsed in the small hours in Jalarona Banda on Wednesday. They were asleep when the roof caved in.

The local people informed Yar-Hussain police station about the incident.

SHO Shahzad Khan, when contacted, said that police reached the spot immediately after receiving the information and assisted locals in the rescue operation.

The victims were identified as Bahar Ali, his wife Gulalai Ali and twin daughters Habiba Ali and Hira Ali. Another daughter of Bahar Ali identified as Sumayya Ali was injured in the incident while his son Taimur Ali remained unhurt.

Meanwhile, a teenager identified as Abdullah of Labadam village drowned in Tarbela Dam on Wednesday.

He slipped into the water while grazing cattle near the dam. The local divers were trying to retrieving his body till filing of this report.

In Lakki Marwat, two people including a woman were killed and four received injuries in rain-related incidents.

According to reports, the house of Rehman collapsed in Shaikh Manzoor village resulting in the death of his wife. Three children of the villager were retrieved from the debris in injured condition and were shifted to a local hospital.

In another incident, a boy was killed and his relative Mirza Ali was wounded when a roof fell down in Shahdikhel.

Torrential rains also damaged crops and fruits in the district. The administration has sent teams to affected areas for rescue and relief activities. The revenue department officials were directed to assess losses of the affected people.

In Bajaur tribal district, a man was killed and three others were injured as roof of their house collapsed in Khar tehsil due to rain.

The owner of the house was identified as Fazal Wahid, who died on the spot. Local said that all the victims were sleeping in the room when it collapsed. Two daughters of the deceased -- Sawala Bibi and Tanzila Bibi -- were shifted to hospital in critical condition.

In Mansehra, Torghar-Buner Road, which was blocked to all sorts of traffic following heavy landslide, could not be reopened causing inconvenience to people travelling between the two districts.

“The communication and works department failed to clear the roads blocked due to landslide trigged by recent rains,” Rubnawaz, a resident of Judbah, told journalists on Wednesday.

Madakhel-Buner road, Judbah-Thakot road and Judbah-Shatal road were blocked following the landslide triggered by recent rains in the district.

Mr Nawaz demanded of the deputy commissioner to get the roads cleared to end the miseries of people.

In Shangla, Martung and Puran tehsils received heavy hailstorm on Wednesday that destroyed standing crops.

The rain coupled hailstorm lashed the two tehsils of Shangla while torrential rain lashed the entire district and affected standing crops and orchards. The weather turned cold after snowfall on mountains and hailstorm in plain areas of the two tehsils.
