MARDAN: A prisoner committed suicide inside the district jail Mardan here on Friday.

Sources said the officials found Rehmanullah hanging. The slain hailed from Charsadda district and had been behind the bars since December 2019 in a murder case.

This correspondent attempted to seek comments of the jail superintendent, but his subordinate officials said he was busy in a meeting.

The cell phone of the jail superintendent was also found switched off.

However, there have been reports about mismanagement and brawls among prisoners inside the district jail.

Meanwhile, an old enmity claimed life in Sharif Abad locality on Mardan-Nowshera Road on Friday.

Police quoted Imran, brother of the deceased, as saying that they were returning home after a court hearing that their rivals Mehran and Mawoos opened fire, critically injuring Rahim Dad. He said Rahim died while being shifted to hospital.

Meanwhile, one of the suspected killers, Mawoos, told police that he was injured when Rahim Dad, Imran and Waseel opened fire.

Police lodged separate FIRs against the rival parties and began investigations.
