LAHORE: The Mustafa Abad police arrested 50 young students for allegedly blocking the Canal Road for traffic here on Thursday.

The students, mostly of the FC College, gathered on the Canal Road in groups and parked their bikes in the middle of one of the city’s main arteries.

A police official said some of the students were carrying pistols and resorted to aerial firing on the pretext of ‘celebrating their last day at the college’.

Because of the students, mostly in uniform, parking their bikes on the road the traffic was thrown out of gear for a couple of hours.

He said many families also got stuck in the traffic mess, suffering a great deal of inconvenience.

The police, after receiving calls from the trapped families, acted immediately and arrested more than 50 students from the spot, also impounding their motorbikes.

A case has been registered against the troublemakers, he said, adding that these students were in the habit of creating disturbance on the city roads.
