Caring for the elderly

In the cover story “Caring for the elderly” (YW, Feb 8, 2020) Benazir Raz has wisely analysed our responsibilities towards old people in our families. They only want a little time and attention from us. Only a little smile from us can make their day brighter.

Throughout their lives they have sacrificed for us and given us so much and fulfilled our everyday needs. When they become old, they become sensitive, exhausted, weak and feeble and are unable to enjoy life like us.

They are usually ignored by all as they hold no importance for us and their advice and feelings do not matter. We only remain concerned about our activities, business, school and having fun.

Giving a smile to them everyday instead of spending hours with them or just having dinner together and sharing some stories on the weekend can mean a lot to them. After all, we too will age one day and we will also desire the company of the younger generation.

This is regarding the article “Caring for the elderly” by Benazir Raz. I liked this piece because it gave great advice and reminders for the young generation. We spend more time on social media, with friends and on other things, but we have no time for our elders.

We can learn so much from our elders because they have real life experiences. They cannot give us the wrong advice because they love us unconditionally.

We should respect them and not ignore their words and advice. Sometimes we don’t give attention to them and it hurts their feelings. Old age is a sensitive phase and older people need care and comfort for a healthy life without worries and anxiety. They long for care, love and affection from us. Understanding their needs and concern will ensure their good health.

The black sea

This is regarding the story “The black sea” by Naad-e-Ali (YW, February 1, 2020). I found it so enchanting that somehow as I read it, I felt that I was travelling with the ogre.

I read the story in one go because I just couldn’t put it down. You will find it interesting to know that after reading it, I was compelled to Google “How the Black Sea was formed?”

The writer had a strong grip on the plot of the story and also on the readers. How the writer uses his imagination and correlates it with reality is the real joy of any story and the writer was able to do it.

I look forward to reading the stories in this magazine each week.
