SP’s suicide

Published January 24, 2020

APROPOS the letter ‘SP’s suicide’ (Jan 19). The writer refers to the tragic incident and has asked the Federal Public Service Commission to take notice of the matter.

No doubt, the FPSC is a state recruitment organisation and their selection tools must take into consideration the physical and psychological well-being of candidates being selected for different vacanices.

In this case, the major responsibility lies on the shoulders of the police department. There is a possibility that the ill-fated superintendent joined the service with an optimistic frame of mind and sound psychological condition, Uunfortunately, it must have been the working conditions that might have propelled things toward this tragic end.

Work overload, abusive supervision, harassment, and work-life conflicts are some of the sources of severe workplace stress. Every organisation should take practical steps to ensure the physical and psychological well-being of its employees.
