This father-daughter duo is journeying through Punjab's heartland on a motorcycle

In the first episode of Motorcycle Diaries, the duo explore the Sahiwal District and the life lived in Punjab's villages

Tourism in Pakistan is a growing industry.

But many remain focused on foreign tourists visiting the country's north, trapezing their way through the streets of its urban centres and dipping their taste palettes into our fiery street food. What often goes unnoticed is how local travellers explore and navigate the country's social and cultural landscape.

But Tahir Mehdi and Momal Tahir, a father-daughter duo, are breaking the norm by carrying a camera and riding their motorcycle through Punjab's rural heartland in search of captivating stories of ordinary individuals.

Hosted on Sujaag Videos, a multi-media digital platform that focuses on issues and communities that have been marginalized in the mainstream discourse, the multi-episode travel diary starts with the exploration of the Sahiwal District.

As Tahir drives through Punjab's green belt, his daughter Momal operates the camera that captures a landscape dotted with vast lush fields, unpaved pathways, open roads, and a portrait of quintessential village life. The father and daughter alternate between taking charge of the wheels of their motorcycle.

In the first episode, the Mehdis scrutinise the inhabitants of Chak 12/11, their habits and the routine of a life lived in Punjab's villages.

We commend the pair's pro-active approach to travelling through their own country and capturing its beauty through a fresh lens.

Should have used two bikes, the second one for the daughter to give her more independence and confidence. Also if one bike failed, a breakdown or a puncher, then there is the second bike for backup. BTW have done the Karakorum highway on a Honda Goldwing. And Lahore to Karachi on a bicycle. Armed, and along with a couple of SSG friends.

This shows the hardship in our rural areas, maybe we need to start a program to help these fellows to make life easy for them.

Very nice effort to show the true state of affairs of rural areas, despite various claims by many govts the rural area of the country remains backward in many areas; feudals and waderas never allowed, and will never allow any developments in their areas! What a pity!

Why he is driving a motorcycle with his daughter on the most polluted land on earth. There are no beautiful patches of land left in these areas as most of the forest cover and old village structure has already been destroyed here.

Good to know you care for those living in country-side. Keep going, but do wear a helmet, ditto for your daughter.
