RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) will launch a campaign against shopkeepers using polythene bags next week.

The civic body imposed a ban on the usage of polythene bags in its jurisdiction last September after directives from the federal government.

A senior RCB official told Dawn that there would be a complete ban on polythene bags in all markets of cantonment areas while teams would make surprise visits next week to inspect ban’s implementation.

Fines would also be imposed on violators, he added. The civic body urged citizens to use paper or cloth bags as plastic bags posed a threat to the environment.
