RAWALPINDI: On the directives of Commissioner Mohammad Mehmood, Rawalpindi and Attock district administrations launched action against 12 illegal housing societies on Thursday.

The offices of six housing societies in Rawalpindi and four in Attock were demolished by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and the Attock district administration.

According to a senior official of the RDA, the site offices of Abad Pearl Villas, ACHS Sector VI, Maryam Green City, Rose Valley, Ruden Enclave and Islamabad Farm Houses Phase-III were demolished on Adiala Road. Six billboards as well as electric poles were also removed.

In Attock, the offices of four housing societies in Fatehjang were demolished and their goods seized.

The developers had set up four housing societies - Al-Faisal Enclave, Airport Enclave, Mayfair and Highland Suites - in the prohibited area of the new airport. The team demolished the offices and seized the goods.

The official said 12 more housing schemes would face action next week.

“Hundreds of sites have been identified and preparations are underway to launch action against them.”

He said the illegal societies were repeatedly warned and issued notices but their owners did not approach the civic agency.
