PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Wednesday launched e-ticketing and payment system for depositing traffic fines and driving licence fee in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is aimed at improvement in public service delivery and effective implementation of traffic rules.

He inaugurated the initiative at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines where KP police chief Sanaullah Abbasi was also present.

A statement issued here said that under this system the challan fines and driving licence fee payments could now be made on the spot to traffic wardens, through mobile wallet, online portal, ATM or 5,000 point of sale franchises in the province.

Similarly, instant verification of payments through SMS and online portal, points deduction system on violations, violation history of both vehicles and violators, instant verification, online reconciliation with banks, instant digital reporting, including the reports of challan, payments and outstanding fines are all part of the digital initiative.

Briefing the chief minister on this occasion, Mr Abbasi said that the system has been prepared in two months and would also be integrated with the safe city project of the provincial government.

He said that for effective implementation, 1,100 traffic wardens throughout the province had been provided training on the digital system and equipped with the required gadgets. He said that initially the digital system was being implemented in 28 districts of the province, including Khyber and Mohmand tribal districts. He said that the system would also facilitate users to apply for licence renewal in any district of the province as the driving licence system had been integrated with the central database.

Speaking on this occasion, the chief minister said that the initiative was another step of the government towards realising the ‘Digital Pakistan’ vision of the prime minister.

Mr Khan said that the government had started digitalisation of government services during its last tenure and the incumbent government was committed to furthering the initiative by digitising the entire governance structure. He said that efforts were being made for digitalisation of the Chief Minister Secretariat and chief secretary office, which would be followed by digitising all government departments.

The chief minister said that the KP police were far better in performance and introduction of reforms in comparison with those of other provinces. He also paid homage to the police martyrs on this occasion.
