LAHORE: The legal fraternity on Monday observed a strike and locked down district courts for hours in protest against non-arrest of the doctors and paramedics allegedly involved in torturing some lawyers at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).

At a general house meeting of the Lahore Bar Association, its president Asim Cheema announced sealing the office of the inspector general of Punjab police if the doctors were not arrested. He said the lawyers would not forgive the guilty doctors and continue their protest till their arrest.

Shadman police had registered an FIR against 12 unidentified doctors and paramedics for torturing the lawyers.

Reportedly a clash occurred when a lawyer visited the PIC accompanying his relative for his check-up where he exchanged harsh words with a doctor. Later, he was joined by other lawyers, while doctors and paramedics also came to support their colleague.

The lawyers alleged that three of their colleagues were tortured and injured by the PIC doctors and paramedics. The injured lawyers were said to be stable.

The lawyers later lodged a complaint against the doctors and paramedics with the police.
