GUJRAT: Three members of a family were killed and two other persons injured when a train hit their car at an unmanned level crossing near Dillo area of Kharian on Wednesday.

Reports said a family was on its way home by a car and the man behind the wheel could not see the oncoming train. No sooner had the driver tried to cross the railway track than the train came close and hit the car as a result of which Nadia and her two children Aiman, 8, and Aashir, 5, died on the spot. The driver who was not identified till last reports came in and another child, Aadil, were critically injured and shifted to Kharian THQ hospital.

A Rescue 1122 team reached the spot and shifted the bodies and the injured to the hospital.

Locals said a number of such accidents had occurred on this spot but the installation of gates on both sides of the railway crossing was being carried out at a snail’s pace.
