Fans are not happy about Deepika Padukone working with an alleged harasser

Deepika and Ranbir Kapoor were seen leaving Luv Ranjan's office, who was accused of sexual harassment by an actor
23 Jul, 2019

In October 2018, the #MeToo movement enveloped the sub-continent highlighting many of those who we have loved, cherished and celebrated in the past as sexual harassers and abusers.

A lot of these individuals were individuals from the media industry, who occupy positions of immense power and fame.

Amidst the allegations, one of the names that surfaced was of the filmmaker, Luv Ranjan who was accused of sexual harassment by an actor.

Streaks of misogyny, sexism and toxic masculinity are evident in Ranjan's work, catering to a very specific male audience. On Friday the Tamaasha duo, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were spotted exiting Luv's office and even though the prospect of the two working together makes many fans ecstatic, others are furious.

Using the hashtag #notmyDeepika, fans on Twitter are registering their anger and disappointment at the prospect of their favourite actor working with an alleged sexual harasser.

Fans are reminding Deepika of everything she has claimed to stand up for

They're reminding Deep of all that's at stake if she goes ahead with this

Many are fuming

All love and admiration aside, fans are very clear about their stance on this one; they would root for Deepika on any other day, but not when she decides to work with an abuser.

Deepika has been my favourite actress since my childhood.Seeing her working with Ranbir kapoor after a long time gives me pleasure but on the on the other side the stance taken by the millions of people against the alleged actors for rape in the mee too movement cannot be neglected. I advise deepika to keep an arm's lenght from the person who tainted the sanctity of bollywood and its actresses.

Accused* innocent until proven guilty. Now days we have seen many cases where women have falsely accused men of harrasement. So i would advice to stay calmn until the court gives a verdixt and than act upon it

If you go with a magnifying glass and tooth-comb, not a single male person would not be left who is not an abuser to some extent.

@lovely person The director was accused of casting couch not actor. The accuser was anonymous post online who never came forward. Nobody knows if it was hoax, real or planned to target director. Good on Deepika for not falling for allegations without proof/identity.

This is the other extreme of the #metoo movement. Public shaming of Bollywood males who in fact did not physically abuse or cross certain lines. And yes, don't get me wrong - emotional and verbal abuse does qualify as sexual abuse. But, close and personal questions in a controlled setting that can affect sensibilities, cannot be blanked clubbed into the @metoo abuse. If someone misconstrues a standard process with sexual overtones, can it be considered abuse? Bollywood is overtly and covertly sexual for artistic license (and maximizing audiences), and for the roles in movies like pyaar/shaadi ka panchnaama you probably needed to know certain things about the female protagonist. The fact that the director tried to apologize and reached out repeatedly to the actress clinches my argument. Had he been deliberately conniving, he may not be messaging. Anyway, my two cents, take it or leave it.

anyone can accuse anyone....but my question is show valid proof and then they can ask others to boycott working with the actor/actress. The curse in #metoo is that, it blindly believes any thing being said by any lady...thats where #metoo already diluted. I dont blame Deepika and she is doing right

I believe Deepika should set an example for the youth of Pakistan by refusing to work with an alleged harasser until he receives relief from the courts.

The difference between harasser and 'alleged' harasser is quite substantial. Need to establish guilt before demonizing the accused.

So it's guilty until proven guilty, eh?
