LAKKI MARWAT: The residents of Takhtikhel union council ended boycott of anti-polio drive and showed willingness to vaccinate their children against the crippling disease.

The announcement to this effect was made after officials held successful talks with local elders in Shah Tora Takhtikhel on Monday.

The residents of the area had boycotted anti-polio campaign over power loadshedding and low voltage. They told the vaccinators that they would not immunise children unless authorities resolved their electricity-related problems.

The district health department launched case response anti-polio drive in 19 union councils of the district including Takhtikhel on Monday.

Around 499 teams have been formed to administer anti-polio vaccine to 119,858 children in the targeted union councils adjoining Bannu district.

Deputy Commissioner Jehangir Azam Wazir took serious notice of the boycott of anti-polio drive by residents of Takhtikhel and tasked officials to visit the area and ensure vaccination of targeted population at all costs.

The deputy commissioner also paid surprise visits to basic health units of Gandi Khankhel and Manjiwala and Category-C hospital of Naurang on Monday.

He checked the coverage record of children, micro plan, cold-chain and vaccine vials and directed officials to ensure vaccination of every child in the areas under their control.

ARREST: Police arrested two suspects soon after they allegedly shot dead a woman at Gambila bus stand in the limits of Serai Gasmbila police station on Monday.

Police said that Sharafat Bibi was attacked as soon as she stepped down from a vehicle. “The women received serious bullet wounds and died on the spot,” they said, adding that the deceased along with a male relative was coming from judicial complex after attending a local court.

Complainant Azizullah told police that Imdadullah shot dead Shafrafat Bibi with his pistol and escaped with his accomplice Zakirullah on a motorcycle. He said that the deceased woman had no enmity with the killer.

Police said that cops on duty at bus stand chased the alleged killer and his accomplice while a party of Serai Gambila police station also reached there. They said that policemen overpowered both the suspects and seized the pistol and motorcycle from them. Police also claimed to have arrested three drug traffickers on Monday.
