Mohsin Abbas Haider addresses domestic violence allegations against him

Not every teary-eyed woman is always right. Men are also wronged, said the actor in a press conference.
Updated 22 Jul, 2019

Actor and singer Mohsin Abbas Haider has denied the domestic abuse allegations against him in a press conference last night and challenges his wife, Fatema Sohail, to come forward with evidence.

Haider, who shared he'll be keeping his hand on the Holy Quran throughout, started the talk saying he was "prepared for this day" because he had allegedly received these threats often. "She threatened to ruin my career and bring me to the streets. I was just waiting for it to happen."

Calling his marriage with Fatema "toxic", he added, "I'm old-fashioned, we don't talk about a woman's respect and honour publicly and in the media but now remaining silent isn't an option."

"This marriage happened in the heat of the moment, this never should have happened. When my mother passed away, Fatema came all the way from Lahore to Faisalabad to condole. I thought she's someone who's made all this effort to come see me, she will stick with me through my difficult times.

We realised within a few months mutually that this marriage was a mistake and we both confided in each other about this. A mere few days into the union, her lies started to come out, in the form of messages and photos."

Addressing the photographs shared on social media, Mohsin alleged that the bruises and scratches are from when she fell down the stairs in 2018 and took those pictures to show him while he was travelling.

"If she was getting beaten up by me for four years, why are there no medical reports? I've never said she's a bad woman, we just didn't have any compatibility," he stated. He repeatedly challenged her to bring medical evidence of her injuries or go to the police station.

He also claimed that Fatema has been dodging the police and that he was coming from the police station after giving his statement. Fatema says Mohsin has lied about recording his statement with the police. She says she spoke to the SHO who told her there hadn't been a statement, and has said that the audio recordings of her call with the SHO are available.

Talking about the recent incident, when Fatema says he physically assaulted her again, Abbas said: "We've only probably lived together for one year and we had been separated for the last 5-6 months. 2-4 days ago, at 2:32 am, my doorbell starts ringing constantly with a woman outside screaming. I didn't open the gate, in fear of creating an even bigger scene. She made her cab driver jump inside my gate, open the door from inside and she started banging on the windows."

He said she demanded he transfer the property he was living in at the time to her to which he agreed and left the premises.

Talking about Fatema's claim that he ran away from the responsibilities he owes his son, he says he gave her alimony for months and that he has receipts of the transactions.

"I could've said after the separation that he's her responsibility, she should work and take care of her child but I didn't."

He also said that not every crying woman is honest and that women use something called the "aurat card".

"Why do we always play the woman card? Not every wailing woman can be right; why can't men be wronged? Go see the social experiments white people do, when a man and woman fight on the street, and the woman slaps the guy, no one bats an eye, people laugh and make videos. But if a man shoves a woman, people stop and start fighting with him."

The Na Maloom Afraad actor in the end said that Fatema is doing this in reaction to him wanting to get married again, which he said is his religious right and Pakistan's constitution gives him permission to.

When questioned about one very crass comment from his Facebook on Fatema's post, he says she had his Facebook password, someone is attempting to hack his Instagram and that he does not have access to his social media accounts at the moment.

I don't know of a single couple who have not had an argument or fight. The best is to keep such matters limited to a bedroom and perhaps the worse is to bring in into public-media.

Mohsin Abbas sounded honest, innocent and convincing in his press conference yesterday. His wife needs to show medical reports if she was beaten by him.

Let this be investigated properly in court of law instead of social media. So far it proves alot about Mohsin's chharacter as a husband. I wonder what was about those messages and photographs he mentioned above? Maybe he doubted the past of his wife and lead to destruction of his marital life?

@Saad Get your moral compas sorted. There is nothing shameful in what he demanded. He is already giving alimony, which means he is aslready assuming his responsibility towards the child. However, his wife is avoiding responsibility by trying to live off solely the alimony, he provides. Indeed the wife needs to woman up and find work to equitably divide the responsibility of raising the child. Her refusal to do so, is indeed shameful.

Since neither has failed a case with the police or the courts, clearly both have some skeletons to hide and neither in this story is telling the whole truth. Those supporting either side, should stop doing so and wait till their is credible evidence of something.

@Talha “Mohain Abbas sounded honest, innocent, convincing in press conference” 1. The abusive facial bruise marks on her face is from “falling from stairs”. 2. Mohsin leaving abusive comment on her FB to solve things personally is “My account got hacked”. 3. Mohsin saying he wasn’t compatible, lived seperately wanted divorse in first 6 months, still having 2 kids with her blows his lies up. His complete silence on his affair is quiet telling too.

So everytime the poor lady had been subjected to domestic violence and beaten up, she should have got to the hospital to get a medical report and filed it in a folder for this day. Interesting how he's been garnering support lately about his depression. Shame!

Sorry, if Fatema does not have evidence that can prove Mohsin's guilt without a reasonable doubt then this case is right now of he said/she said. That is why it is very important to record your statement to the police when a physical harm incident happen, even if the woman in the end for some bizarre reason decides to stay with the man (which happens a lot in Pak because beating a woman is considered a norm in Pak and when that happens the family members force the woman to keep quite and put up with it or give a bizarre advice that have kids and everything will be ok etc) . The reason the women are afraid to come forward and register a case is because there are no women protection laws in Pak. In the West, if there is no pre-nuptial agreement, the non working spouse gets 50% of man's earnings and wealth if he/she gets divorced and the figure goes higher if kids are involved, so he/she can maintain his/her lifestyle and the money automatically deducted from the earning spouse account.

He never addressed the allegations of extra marital relations with other women. There are eye witnesses of wife's beating. Fatima thought he will change but abusers never change. If it had happened in another country and wife was brought to the hospital with signs of abuse and beatings, he would have been in jail long time ago. Domestic violence against women is very common in Pakistan. and the women always suffer and never complain. Its time that police arrest this thug and put him behind bars where he belongs.

@Surinder Gill You just said two contradictory things 1. The responsibility to bring up a child is upon a man (father) and not on a mother, 2. The child is not of mother alone. you are equal in it. Your first statement clearly demeaning towards the man as you suggest that responsibilty of men is greater than responsibility of women. Your second statement is inconcistent with the first, as you suggest the responsiblity should be equally shared. I think you need to calm down and get an education first, before you start posting comments.
