LAHORE: An accountability court on Wednesday allowed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to interrogate in jail a suspect involved in alleged money laundering case against leader of opposition in National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif and his sons.

The NAB filed an application to the court pleading that suspect Aftab Mahmood, already in Camp Jail on judicial remand, was required to be grilled in light of further revelations made in a news published in a British newspaper about the money laundering allegedly committed by Mr Sharif.

A prosecutor told the court that Mahmood was accused of sending foreign remittances worth millions of dollars in the bank accounts of Sharif and his sons - Hamza and Salman. He said the news report published in the foreign newspaper revealed further role of the suspect in the money laundering scam, therefore, the NAB wanted to re-interrogate him in the jail.

The presiding judge, Chaudhry Ameer Muhammad, admitted the application and allowed the NAB to grill the suspect in the jail.
