QUETTA: Veteran journalist Mohammad Omer Qambrani passed away after a long illness on Wednesday night. He was 81.

He is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters.

Mr Qambrani began his career at weekly Jamalistan published from Jaffarabad. It was shut down during Ayub Khan’s martial law.

Later, he worked as the correspondent for various newspapers published from Quetta and Lahore. Most recently, he served as special correspondent for Daily Mashriq, Quetta.

Mr Qambrani fell ill two months ago and was under treatment in Karachi. Last week, he was discharged from the hospital and returned to his hometown, Gandakha. On Wednesday afternoon his condition deteriorated and he was taken to Larkana where he died later that night.
