MUZAFFARGARH: Five persons died and two others were injured seriously when a bus hit a rickshaw at Chowk Sarwar Shaheed, some 70km from here on Saturday.

According to locals, a Karachi-bound bus coming from Rawalpindi hit a rickshaw carrying seven people.

As a result, five of them died on the spot, while two others were seriously injured.

According to the witnesses, the accident was caused because the bus was speeding.

Following the accident, the dead bodies were shifted to the nearby Chowk Sarwar Shaheed rural health centre, while the injured were referred to the Nishtar Hospital Multan because of their serious condition.

The police registered a case against the bus driver who fled the scene immidieately after the accident.

Later, a large numbers of people staged a protest against the bus owners and police. The protesters who blocked the road for traffic alleged that police did not take any action against the bus owners.
