MANSEHRA: The Torghar district administration on Monday initiated an inquiry into the death of a five-month-old girl after she was administered with polio vaccine.

Islami Bibi allegedly died after a health team administered her with polio vaccine in Shagai Bagar village of Judbah tehsil.

Noroz Khan told reporters that as a health team administered polio drops to his niece, her condition started deteriorating and they rushed her to the civil hospital in Judbah where doctors pronounced her dead.

He said that his niece had been suffering from high-grade fever for last many days.

The deputy commissioner, district police officer and officials of the health department rushed to residence of Islami Bibi and inquired about the death and what had actually happened to her.

“Though we are sure that the baby girl didn’t die of polio vaccine even then we have launched an inquiry to satisfy her parents and local community,” assistant commissioner, Judbah, Khurram-ur-Rehman Jadoon told reporters.

He said that some locals wanted to create law and order situation over the death of Islami Bibi.

“We cannot allow anybody to take law into his own hands and this is why we have initiated an inquiry for the satisfaction of parents and locals,” he said, adding the inquiry report would soon be made public.
