LAHORE: A seven-event card featuring a cup race has been dished out to make the day/night racing enjoyable for race fans during seventh Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday evening.

Two races are planned to be held during day light while the other five events will be held under floodlights in view of the sizzling hot mid-June weather. In all 62 horses are taking part in races, that indicates the horse-owners have become more accustomed to all-weather round the year racing in Lahore.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) has installed high-powered generators to produce its own electricity to illuminate the entire Racecourse to stage uninterrupted action packed racing.

The main event, of the over four-hour competitive horse-racing will be the Captain Hassan Javed Shaheed Cup for class VI horses to be gone over the 1,200-metre distance.

Of the eight horses taking part, majority are in with a chance to make it a closely contested affair.

Other events, are meant for class VII horses and are assigned weights in the handicap to make these competitive with a varying number of seven to eleven runners taking part in a race.

All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres.

The first race will start at 6.00pm.

Meanwhile, the LRC stewards have advised all riders to make careful use of whip on their mount when and where necessary and avoid reckless and unnecessary whipping that often result in loss of race or the horse going lame. They have warned that any rider found violating the order and found in excessive whipping would be dealt with severely .The offender can lose his riding license even.

The stewards have also amended the rule regarding change of rider. The owners have been advised to get their horse’s rider changed after half an hour of the declaration of riders or 30-minutes before the start of first race otherwise no change of rider will be allowed.

The order has been issued to avoid unnecessary delay or wastage of time between races.
