PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company has claimed to have disconnected power supply to 171 consumers for power theft and recovered Rs16 million from defaulters during a campaign against electricity thieves across the province.

According to a statement issued here on Saturday, the illegal power connections were cut off by a special taskforce in different areas of Mardan district.

It was stated that during the operation nine tampered power meters were also removed and as many meters were replaced. Nine meters were taken away by the team over non-payment of dues.

Similarly, names of 25 persons were sent to the relevant police stations for lodging FIRs against them who were found guilty of taking direct connections from transmission lines.
