THE WEEK THAT WAS

Kamzarf | Geo TV, Tuesdays 8.00pm

No one can pull a scowl like Aima (Nadia Khan), but it appears that her days as the mean, manipulative and bad-tempered elder sister are numbered. She meets her match in her new bhaabi Fariya (Maryam Nafees), who marries Aima’s younger brother Asim (Ali Ansari), and refuses to take any bullying from her, cutting her down to size and that too with style.

Ruffled, Aima forces her brothers to sell the family house so that she can finance an apartment for her beau Nabeel (Aly Khan) and herself with her share of the money. Things get totally out of control for her when the other bhaabi Fouzia (Rabab Hashim) discovers and informs the family that Nabeel is a con artist, and that the woman he introduced as his cousin is actually his wife.

Hania | ARY, Thursdays 8.00pm

After some dragging, finally an episode of suspense and thrill where the timid, whimpering Hania (Zoya Nasir) plunges a knife into the big, bad Vohra sahib (Nayyer Ejaz) and ends her captivity by running away and arriving in front of saviour cousin Rohaan’s (Osama Tahir) car. The police takes care of her terrible husband Junaid (Junaid Khan) while Rohaan and Hania are placed in safe custody, under police guard at a farmhouse.

Meanwhile, the only thing upsetting Rohaan’s mum Saira (Atiqa Odho) is that her son is alone with Hania, and not that their life is in danger from the villainous Junaid!

What To Watch Out For (or not)

Aangan | Hum TV, Thursdays 8.00pm

Ehtashamuddin’s much-hyped magnum opus fails to entertain as the sepia-toned misery continues with little or no intrigue and pace. Chammi (Sajal Ali), the only saucy character in the story, is married off unwillingly to a much-older man, whom she ignores while he lavishes attention on his mum.

Bitto aka Aliya’s (Mawra Hocane) father Mazhar (Omair Rana) dies in jail while she sits imagining Jamil ‘bhaiyya’ through confusing flashbacks and dream sequences. Bitto has a love-hate relationship with Jamil and cannot decide whether she loves him or not. With Congress/Muslim League politics in the backdrop, none of the lame twists and turns gel well enough to make this an exciting watch.
