LAHORE: A man injured a polio worker on Tuesday after the staffer insisted on him getting his child administered polio drops.

Officials said a team headed by district health department’s official namely Idrees visited the area of Bambay Jhuggian, Amir Road, Shadbagh, in the city and started administering polio drops. During the activity, the team knocked at the door of a house. One Abdullah, who opened the door, refused to get his child administered drops when asked by the team members.

“During the course of arguments, Abdullah refused to do so, declaring polio drops injurious to children’s health. Why have you people come to me since you know that what happened in Peshawar recently in this regard,” an official quoted Abdullah as having said to the polio team.

When team head Idrees insisted on Abdullah doing so, the latter attacked the former with knife, injuring him on the spot.

“Idrees received injuries to his right arm and leg. The people gathered there and shifted him to the hospital. And later Deputy Commissioner Ms Saleha Saeed sent ADCG and the AC (City) to the spot,” the official said.

He said the ADCG and the AC got Abdullah arrested. A case was registered against him.
