SWABI: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Sunday inaugurated a gas supply to Bamkhel, Panjpir and other villages.

Talking to mediapersons on the occasion, he said that he had fulfilled the poll promise of providing gas supply.

He said world powers should put up a joint effort to defeat terrorism. He said compared with rest of the world Pakistan had fought serious war against terrorism and emerged victorious.

He said the gory incidents of terrorism in Sri Lanka had made clear that annihilating terrorism needed cooperation and coordination of all states for the sake of humanity.

He condemned the Sri Lankan blasts during Easter in which over 200 people were killed and about 450 injured.

Earlier, Mr Qaiser also inaugurated a power feeder at Right Bank Colony, Tarbela Dam, for electrification of different villages of Topi.

Addressing a public meeting, he said all the pledges made with the people during the election campaign would be fulfilled by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government.

SCORES OF SUSPECTS ARRESTED: Over 60 suspects were arrested during the strike and search operation on Sunday, said officials. They said the operation was conducted in Malikabad and various areas of Topi, including mountainous Gadoon Amazai.

The operation was led by DSP Topi Ijaz Khan.

POPPY DESTROYED: The police destroyed poppy crop cultivated by the farmers of Gadoon Amazai in an operation the other day.

Officials said the operation was planned on Friday by the police officials after receiving information from the department that sent its staff to the region for presenting a true picture.

The operation was started early in the morning and continued till noon, the sources said, adding it was led by Topi tehsil DSP Ijaz Khan. They said the operation was conducted in Mangalchai, Chanai, Dalori and various other regions. A policeman who participated in the operation said Gadoon Amazai was a difficult terrain and the opium crop was cultivated in the area where approach of law-enforcement agencies was difficult, but they reached the high altitude areas.

The officials claimed that poppy crop over 2,200 kanals had been destroyed, but in some areas the growers pledged that they would destroy the same in the next two days.
