LAHORE: Nouman Butt, a member of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s governing board, has been reported to an independent adjudicator following a complaint from a fellow member of the Board of Governors.

Sialkot region chief Nouman, along with four other members of the BoG, had during Wednesday’s meeting raised his voice against the PCB’s proposed plans to shut down all regional and departmental teams and turn to a provincial teams system.

The plan was presented at the BoG meeting in Quetta where Nouman tabled a resolution against it. However, PCB chairman Ehsan Mani insisted for the debate on the plan and wanted to put the resolution in ‘any other item’ of the agenda. The situation escalated with the meeting called off as the five members left the venue.

The protesting members had also declared null and void the appointment of PCB managing director Wasim Khan, calling it non-constitutional.

Having earlier approved the post during the last meeting in February, the members claimed they came to know there was no such provision in the constitution.

However, the PCB had appointed Wasim Khan and wanted to give him more powers during the Quetta meeting.

The PCB news release on Thursday did not mention which member had filed the complaint against Nouman but said the case was referred to retired Justice Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan according to the PCB constitution.

“In the complaint, the BoG member alleged Mr Nouman Butt with sharing confidential meeting documents with the media; using inappropriate and highly objectionable language against Chairman PCB; criticising the PCB and it’s management/policies through dishonest statements; making false accusations; carrying out misrepresentation of facts; and blatantly acting against the interests of Pakistan cricket,” the PCB news release stated.

“This means as per Article 10(7) and pending the outcome of the proceedings, Mr, Nouman Butt will not be allowed to attend any BoG and Committee meetings. The complainant has also alleged Mr Nouman Butt for violating provisions of Article 19 of the PCB Constitution, which relates to Undertaking by Full Members and Associate Members of the General Body,” it concluded.
