QUETTA: A woman and her five children — four sons and a daughter — were killed when the roof of their house collapsed due to landslide in the Harnai area on Monday.

Official sources said the incident took place in the Zinda Pir area of Harnai district.

“Due to heavy rains a landslide hit a house close to the mountains in the Zinda Pir area, resulting in the death of six members of a family,” Harnai Deputy Commissioner Azim Jan Dummar said.

However, a baby girl survived.

The sources said that the family of Kabir Shah was sleeping in their home when its roof caved in. His wife, four sons and a daughter were buried alive under the debris.

Soon after the tragic incident, Levies personnel, along with a rescue team, rushed to the site and started retrieving the bodies.

“Six bodies — a woman and her five children — were recovered from the debris. The bodies were taken to the district hospital for medico-legal formalities,” a Levies officer said. “A two-year-old baby girl was recovered alive from the collapsed house,” he said.

The deceased were identified as Baseer Shah, Ayub Shah, Naseeb Shah, Qadeer Shah and Hajira Bibi.
