LAHORE: The Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation held a candlelit vigil in connection with the 88th death anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh at Shadman Chowk here on Saturday.

A good number of people who participated in the event also observed one-minute silence for the victims of New Zealand terror attack.

Speakers paid rich tributes to Bhagat Singh and his associates Raj Guru and Sukh Dev. Foundation Chairman Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, Lahore High Court Bar Association’s Hafeezur Rehman Chaudhry, Advocate Raja Zulqarnain, senior advocate Syed Almas Haider Kazmi, Pandat Bhagat Lal and Iqbal Mughal spoke on the occasion.

A resolution was also adopted demanding apology from the British queen for the judicial murder of the three freedom fighters and Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It urged the British government to pay compensation to the heirs of the three freedom-fighters and issue a commemorative postal ticket of Bhagat Singh.

The resolution demanded that any major intersection should be named after the three freedom fighters and a chapter on their chivalry be included in school syllabus. It demanded the Shadman Chowk should be named after Bhagat Singh.
