ISLAMABAD: A traffic violator and his friends abducted and beat a traffic constable on Saturday, sources told Dawn.

The traffic police officials, deployed in I-10/1, stopped a man for driving a car without wearing seatbelt and asked for driving licence to issue a ticket.

But the driver refused to hand over his licence and started abusing the ITP officials. This led to the police to impound the car as per the law.

While shifting the car to Sabzi Mandi police station, a police constable, Mohammad Azim, sat in the front seat along with the driver.

Instead of taking the vehicle to the police station the violator drove the car towards a street of I-10/1, where he and his friends pulled out the policeman of the car and started beating him as well as tearing his uniform.

A traffic police team, however, reached there and rescued the constable and arrested two persons while the other two managed to escape.

Later, the police took two persons to the police station along with the vehicle and put them behind bars after registration of a case against them.

The police said the efforts were in progress to arrest the other two persons.
