LAHORE: Governor Chaudhry Sarwar says the bill mandating an increase in salaries of the Punjab Assembly members has not been sent to the Governor House yet.

“When the bill will reach me, I will decide as per direction of Prime Minister Imran Khan,” he said.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony between the University of Health Sciences, Lahore and the University of Faisalabad for “Research Teaching Methodology and Student Exchange” on Wednesday, the governor said the Punjab government was making sure that universities be purged of political intervention and only merit prevails. He said all appointments would be made on merit.

The governor said more than 100,000 Sikh pilgrims would come on the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak and the government would provide them security and services. He welcomed positive developments on Kartarpur corridor construction and lauded the prime minister for fostering peace between India and Pakistan.

He said all cases against the PPP and the PML-N were made in the tenures of previous governments and the PTI government had nothing to do with these. He said no one had the right to criticise institutions but give feedback to improve their working.
