KARACHI: A fresh cold wave is likely to grip the city “for a few days” when the temperature could fall to 10 degrees Centigrade coupled with light shower in parts of the metropolis, a meteorologist said on Monday.

He said the approaching wave was linked with the intensified coldness across the country and Karachi would be no exception where Siberian winds will once again affect its neighbourhoods from late Tuesday till Feb 8 or 9.

“Under the influence of the new system, the city could experience mostly cloudy weather during the next few days,” he said. “The cloudy climate coupled with cold winds could push down the temperature to 10-11 degrees Centigrade in the night which [could fall to] nine degrees. During these days a new system of rain could enter the city, but it would only cause drizzle in its parts.”

On Monday, the minimum temperature in Karachi was recorded between 14 and 16 degrees Centigrade with 56 per cent humidity in the air, said the official, adding that the wind would be blowing in a westerly direction at a speed of 10 nautical miles per hour.

The city last month experienced two spells of moderate to heavy rains in less than two weeks, turning the weather colder.
