PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister has approved a draft bill to abolish the Ehtesab Commission set up for the accountability in the first tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government.

Earlier in September this year, the provincial cabinet had decided to abolish the accountability body saying it had failed to deliver.

Sources said that the establishment department had moved a summary seeking approval of a bill aimed at repealing the KP Ehtesab Commission Act 2014.

Sources said that KPEC assets would be handed over to the Anti-Corruption Establishment, while regular employees would be placed in surplus pool and those on contract would lose their jobs. Sources also said that the ongoing investigations would also be handed over to the ACE.

KP Information Minister Shaukat Yousfzai while talking to reporters confirmed that a bill to repeal KPEC Act 2014 would be placed before the provincial cabinet in its next meeting scheduled for the coming Thursday.
